Maria Markiewicz is a cultural theorist, writer, and curator based between London and New York.

She holds an MA in Contemporary Art Theory from the Visual Cultures Department at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a BA in Culture, Criticism and Curation from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Her main research interests include sexuality studies, critical posthumanities, gender and queer theory, and continental philosophy.

Maria is the author of numerous journal articles on contemporary art and feminist theory, and a contributor to Asexualities: Feminist and Queer Perspectives Anniversary Edition (Routledge, forthcoming in 2024). In 2022, Maria was awarded a Fulbright scholarship, allowing her to further develop her research on post-sexuality at The New School for Social Research in New York (2023-2025).

Maria’s writing – both art and academic – has been published by Contemporary Lynx Magazine, Ocula Magazine, Culture.pl, Feminist Spaces, and the European Journal of American Studies, among others. She has also written catalogue texts for artists, books, exhibitions, and art institutions. Since 2017, Maria has been curating exhibitions in London and Warsaw. Her most recent curatorial project is Beings Swimming Backstroke Towards the Waterfall (Seoul, 2023), part of a wider programme of events and interventions realized as part of the Post-Sexual Futures Collective (Maria Markiewicz, Eunha Chang, Shi Sun).
